Cardboard Picture Frames
Cardboard picture frames are really great to use for
decorating your home and for displaying your pictures in a unique way.
These frames for pictures can be any size or shape, be plain in appearance or have
intricate designs. It all depends on what you want, what you like and the type of atmosphere you are trying to
create in a room.
Although you can purchase cardboard picture frames from different stores or individual designers, just as you can
paper photo frames and many others, did you know that you can also make them yourself? If you are looking for
a fun craft and are interested in making your own frames for pictures designs, you will find that creating these
types of photo casings is relatively easy and enjoyable.
Make Your Own Cardboard Picture FramesThe following are
basic step-by-step instructions on how you can make a cardboard frame for your picture:
Step 1 – Measure the image you will be framing and include an additional two and a half to three inches to each
dimension. The width of the frame’s edges will be determined by how many inches you add.
Step 2 – Cut out two cardboard pieces based on your measurements.
Step 3 – Use a ruler and a pencil to draw out a square, rectangle or oval (whatever shape you want your cardboard
picture frames to be) in the centre of one of the pieces. The shape you create should be a quarter of an inch
smaller than the actual photo size. Once you have completed your geometrical drawing, use a craft knife to make an
even cut.
Step 4 - Lay the piece of cardboard with the cutout portion on a flat surface that you can comfortably work
on. Choose which side will be the top and which will be the bottom. Decorate one side using whatever
materials you like, this could be paint, markers, stamps, glitter, etc. If you choose to use products that
will cause the frame to be wet, you will need to let it dry fully before continuing.
Step 5 – Put the decorated side of the cardboard facedown. Use a pencil and ruler to mark three straight
lines, one on each side and another along the bottom of the cutout hole. The lines should be about a quarter
inch from the cut-out section.
Step 6 – The cardboard picture frames you make will need to be glued. You can use standard craft glue or a
glue stick. You will place a thin layer of glue along the pencil marks you drew on the back of the decorated
portion of your frames for pictures and then place the second piece of cardboard on top of the
glue. Make sure the edges line up perfectly and firmly press the pieces together so they will stick
well. Wipe away any excess glue and then allow your art to fully dry.
Step 7 – Glue a small ribbon loop to the frame’s back so it can be hung on the wall. You can also stick
magnets on the back if you would like to display it on your fridge or another magnetic surface.
Step 8 – Insert your picture through the open top of the frame.
Creating cardboard picture frames is not difficult and is a great task to complete with children or if you are
looking to add a little personal frames for pictures touch to your decorating.
